Where did ADDIE come from?

ADDIE is nothing new! As early as World War II, the U.S. armed forces began a formal effort to improve military training. This is considered the birth of systematic Instructional Design, which is vital to the development of effective performance improvement interventions.

In the 1970s, the U.S. Army, in cooperation with Florida State University, developed a model for the systematic design of effective training. This model is the precursor to what is now known as the ISD model.

In the last 30 years, hundreds of ISD models have been developed, most of which include the common steps known as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). It is generally agreed that this approach is the most effective way to approach Instructional Design.

Many companies and organizations provide training and development services. We’ve found the key to improving performance is to have a plan – a proven methodology to increase your chances for success.

At The GMarie Group, we utilize an established process as the foundation for working with you. The ADDIE Model highlights the common steps shared by many Instructional Systems Design (ISD) models.

The ADDIE Model

Since our Instructional Design (ID) Methodology is based on the ADDIE Model - Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation - we create performance improvement solutions that are well defined, efficiently executed, and provide exceptional ROI to our clients. This flexible process allows us to define required deliverables on a per-project basis.

While we did not invent the ADDIE Model, we are experts at applying it in ways that make both business and performance sense. Our real-world experience has taught us that this model, like others, is simply a framework for the process. We know how and when to adjust that framework to best suit your needs.

When we adapt the model to align with your needs and the specifics of your organization, we create products that produce results.
